I Heart SPAM

I love Spam. I eat it at least once every week (and this might be why I am having breakouts again but that's besides the point) and it was my staple back in college. Some non-Hawaii-living people might be thinking gross and a million times GROSS! Who would eat nasty, fatty, sodium infused gelatinous canned animal parts?

I do! I love its salty-sweet goodness and apparently so do a lot of people. I thought Spam is only popular in Hawaii. Yes, many fast food chains here do serve it for breakfast and Spam musubi is the number one Hawaiian snack: you have not fully experienced the islands until you have taken at least a bite of musubi. According to this article from Mental Floss, it has a huge following around the world--it's so popular that a Spam recipe was featured in Good Housekeeping and an emperor once toured the Spam plant.

And you know, I think the whole "people in the mainland do not eat Spam" thing is a myth because my friends and I made Spam musubis for a pot luck when we were there and everyone loved them. Almost everyone came back for seconds and one of the girls even snuck some into her bag. Others were upset because there wasn't any left for them.

Moral of the post: You have to try it before you hate it.

Haha, I just mentioned spam in one of my posts, but I was slightly less...promotional. I have tried spam musubi but didn't much care for it. I don't think it's terrible, but it's not something I'm scrambling to try again. I guess I can never be true kama'aina :)
