Tsunami Watch and Paranoia

This morning American Samoa experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0 and a tsunami warning was issued for the state of Hawaii (as well as other nearby coasts). I heard all this at work, and I spent pretty much the whole day worried that a big wave was going to destroy my house. Being that the harbor is a two-minute drive away, I had cause for worrying. If a tsunami was going to hit Maui, the first wave was supposed to come after one o'clock this afternoon. When two o'clock hit and no waves came (and the warnings were canceled), I gave a big sigh of relief. However, there is a sort of ominous feeling tonight because it's really windy and a bit cold.

Or maybe I'm just paranoid. I get easily paranoid about little things. For example, whenever I take the trash out at night and I see a shadow at the corner of my eye I immediately think serial killer. If my parents are even late five minutes from the time they say they'd be home, I have to call them to make sure they are not in some kind of accident. The first year I was away for my freshman year in college was especially hard because I would constantly worry about my family. I felt that something bad would happen to them if I wasn't there with them--like they'd be less safe if I wasn't around.

In other news, I can't wait for this weekend because it's county fair weekend. It's been four years since the last time I've gone as I've always been away in school. I'm especially excited to go on Friday with the students in my SPED class--the fair is going to be open during the day so that school children with special needs can go without all the crowd. My friend and I are planning to go on Saturday night, so I finally have a weekend to look forward to.

I'm glad you're ok. I lived with a girl from Hawaii last year and she was worried about her friends and family. Also another one of my best friends lives in American Samoa. We were all terrified, but she's safe and dry.

Where did you go to college? Are you from Hawaii? The things we learn!

We have the same dilemma, actually. I'm sort of a paranoid too. 'Cant help it! Maybe it's because I'm so fond of watching horror and suspense-thriller movies.

Oh gosh, so many natural disasters here and there. I'm paranoid as well. What has nature come to these days, I guess, it's our own fault, the world is sooo polluted.
