Be Careful What You Wish For

Last Saturday I was telling my family how I wanted to get sick for at least three days because I dislike going to work and how awesome would it be to be able to skip work and stay home even if I'm sick and blah, blah...

Lo and behold, I started to feel crappy on Tuesday but I went to work. The next day I started to lose my voice so I figured I got my wish and stayed home for the day. I was guilt-ridden, a throwback of the guilt I felt whenever I missed classes when I was still in school--rarely was I absent then, but I spent the day sleeping, reading, and drinking fluids. Yesterday, my flu was at it's worse but I dragged my ass off to work. My co-worker took one look at and her exact words were "What the heck are you doing here? Look at you!" I gave a faint smile and said reassured her that I'll be okay. Fifteen minutes later I knew I made a mistake going to work. I was so congested and I got dizzy whenever I stood up. I cannot pull off the tough, sarcastic teacher I've been fronting lately (it seems tough and sarcastic works best for high schoolers rather than the sweet forgiving kindergarten teacher persona I had acquired during student teaching).

Anyway, long story short I drove back home and I'm going back to school on Monday. I also just discovered the wonder of "sick days." I mean, I knew they exist but I never took advantage of it because I rarely get sick and I'm still have the 4.0 student mentality of "I must never miss class or else I will miss important information that will be on the test" that my parents drilled into my skull only now it's translated into work.

Of course being sick sucks (so be careful what you wish for!) but I like not having to go to work anyway. I wish Monday isn't only two days away.

haha sometimes being sick can be somewhat bittersweet. The rest can be nice, but it can also drive you nuts!

Hope you feel better, love your blog!

I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago. I was really in need a personal day and I thought Wouldn't it be nice if I got sick? Just for a day?

Facetoilet

Not nice, not even for a day.

As a tax accountant I've been working ridiculous hours (with no end until April 15th) and I would absolutely be lying if I didn't think that it would be so nice to be sick just for a few days pretty much every morning when I wake up. But alas... such is the life of an adult!
